First and third Saturday of each month, 2 to 4 PM at the Two Way Street Coffee House.
One of our favorite regular events, where we sing and play traditional folk and contemporary acoustic music. These twice-a-month sessions are open to everyone who wishes to raise a voice, play an acoustic instrument or just sit and listen to a group of folks singing and ’raising the roof’. All levels of experience are welcome.
We have a session leader, George Mattson, and songbooks are provided. Each person, in turn, selects a song for us to play, and they can lead it themselves or ask George to lead it. Everyone in the room is welcome to join in on every song. The songbook contains tunes from popular folk artists such as Woody Guthrie, Kingston Trio, John Prine, and a few country tunes from people like Hank Williams. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly — everyone is made to feel welcome.
George Mattson has been hosting our Saturday sing-arounds since the mid-90s. He taught guitar at the Old Town School of Folk Music, and performs with the George Mattson Trio. Known for his commanding vocals, boundless energy and affable demeanor, he’s the ideal song leader!
